Buying a Soccer Jersey
Okay, you want to
play soccer and you need to wear a uniform. One of the most important
parts of the uniform is the soccer jersey. Many junior teams and
schools will provide soccer uniform supplies to team players, but if
you play on city or private teams, you'll have to buy your own soccer
uniform gear, or at least a soccer jersey, but with so many choices out
there, it's hard to make a decision.
Whether male or female, soccer players want to play in a comfortable
soccer jersey. Some are flashy, some not, and a soccer jersey can come
in sleeveless, short and long-sleeved styles. Players, both novice and
veteran, want a soccer jersey that's not only comfortable but also
durable and easy to care for, preferably fast drying! Soccer jersey
fabrics come in many different styles and textures.
A soccer jersey can be designed with such fabrics as Beehive
micro-fiber keep moisture from accumulating on the body by
incorporating a wick construction. This method is growing more popular
by clothing manufacturers in the sporting goods and soccer uniform
industry. Other brands like Coolskin, Cool-vent and Cooltec provide the
same effect.
Don't be overwhelmed by the variety. Always check the fabric content
and get something made of 100% polyester, if possible, for long lasting
durability and wash ability. In addition to needing to be lightweight,
a soccer jersey also needs to be resilient to wear and tear. Sports
fabric technology has invented some nearly indestructible fabrics over
the years and most soccer jerseys are made of 100% polyester and Ventex
polyester. These high-tech polyester fabrics are designed to withstand
brutal conditions, so make sure you read your labels before opting for
a cheaper fabric.
A soccer jersey also needs a number and a logo or school patch. Numbers
are usually about eight inches high and are typically numbered between
2-16, while 0 and the number 1 are usually reserved for goalies. A team
logo can be added to the right or left sleeve, across the chest, across
the entire front of the soccer jersey or above the number on the back
of the soccer jersey. It's up to the team, the school or the individual
to choose such options.
A soccer jersey is usually colorful, with bright reds, greens and
yellows the primary choice of colors among both school teams and
professional teams. Most school and community soccer teams copy the
soccer jersey of their favorite professional teams, but other designs
are common among the younger players.
A complete uniform will consist of a soccer jersey, or shirt, shorts,
and socks. These usually come as a set but can be purchased
individually from local sporting goods stores that carry soccer uniform
supplies. While soccer uniform equipment and supplies isn't exactly
cheap, don't make the mistake of purchasing inferior quality goods to
save a few bucks. Check the labels. If necessary, pay a few extra
dollars for the fabrics that contain wicking or Vertex polyester. The
durability and comfort of a soccer jersey will keep both you and your
soccer player happy in the long run.
